A Story of Financial Independence

Move Like Water

I like anime and there is one show that stands out as one of my very most favorite: Cowboy Bebop. There is a scene in this tv show where Spike Spiegel, the lead protagonist, is mentoring a young upstart who wants to be just like him. The counsel that Spike gives to this young upstart is that you must move like water. I have found this philosophy so useful in my everyday life.

There are times in life when you need to be a brick wall, and there are times when you need to move like water. What does that mean? To me, that means rolling with the punches. It means being persistent and consistent in your pursuits because given enough time, water will break down even the hardest stone. This philosophy also means always adapting and changing to the environment. Sometimes you need to move around an obstacle instead of trying to power your way through it.

While the story in the anime ends in tragedy that is bittersweet, the philosophical advice is still something that I try to embody and employ in my own life.

I’m a project manager by trade and there is a lot of planning and negotiating and persuading in this job. And just like in the anime, the work is never predictable. There are always surprises and bends in the river of life that I must adapt to.

“Water can take any form. It drifts without effort one moment, then pounds down with a torrent the very next.”

What does this have to do with wealth and finance? Everything. You can give someone a million dollars and they spend it and lose it in the blink of an eye. To grow wealth, you must have the processes and mindset that are required to grow that wealth snowball.

This blog that you’re reading is my story of how I grew my wealth from $0 into millionaire, and soon to be multi-millionaire. This is now a How-To Guide. It is a series of stories that [hopefully] demonstrate how I did it, and that serve as inspiration for what it will take for you to do the same.

Maybe you get it… but then again… maybe not…
