A Story of Financial Independence

End of Q4 2023 is here and it’s time to do my quarterly retrospective of my Net Worth changes over the past 90 days. Welcome to the second such quarterly report. Yep. Let’s go!

$1.1 Million Net Worth

A good-sized uptick of just over $75K in Net Worth in the last 90 days. My portfolio increased in value to $1,105,000 by the end of the last quarter of 2023. Rock on! 🤘

My interpretation of this data is that my asset allocation and strategy are working for me and I just need to keep the ship on course. I attribute this uptick in an overall lift in the market as the potential for a “soft landing” by the Fed seems surprisingly more likely than just a few months ago. The market has responded by showing optimism in the future. That’s a 180 degree turnabout from a year ago where nearly everyone was certain a recession would happen.

Q4 2023 Retrospective

Q4 2023 ended with a big positive bang 🎉 Thanks to turning sentiment from the Fed and the market, my investments gained significantly over the last three months. That combined with my ongoing infusion of cash from my paycheck pushed my Net Worth up by nearly $75K which is fantastic!

Q1 2024 Look Ahead

The next 90 days I will face financial headwinds of a sort because I’m engaged to be married! I’ll continue to report my individual Net Worth for now and then re-evaluate toward the end of the year as Mrs. ToW and I integrate households.

I anticipate significant draws over the next couple of quarters as wedding costs land. And the cashflow burden for my new construction build in Florida continues to drag negatively on my cash flow. I feel as though my hands have been tied behind my back for the past year and more, and that I’m going through a “squeeze” and the pressure, and stress, are building. When it rains it pours and it’s certainly been pouring.

In short for 2024 ahead, I will be ecstatic if my Net Worth simply holds steady for the first part of 2024, and I am also bracing and mentally preparing myself for the possibility of a dip and decline as my cashflow comes under more pressure. As it is, I’m already running about $1K/mo loss at the sacrifice of my “play money” to get this new home build in Florida off the ground and that does not include additional Wedding rings, ceremony, and honeymoon costs!

Then again, last quarter I expected a significant hit from our 2-week vacation in Hawaii and surprisingly and joyously, my overall portfolio gained significantly over the time span and beat my own forecast. If
